Worksheet variations

A cube has six identical square faces, so its surface area is 6s², and its volume is s × s × s = s³. A rectangular prism's net has three pairs of matching rectangles, so SA = 2(lw + lh + wh).

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Using 3s or s × 3 instead of s³ for a cube's volume.
  • Counting only three faces of a prism instead of all six.
  • Mixing up square units (surface area) and cubic units (volume).

FAQ

What is the surface area of a cube with 5 cm edges?

Each face is 5 × 5 = 25 cm², and there are 6 faces: 6 × 25 = 150 cm².

How does a net help find surface area?

Unfolding a prism into its net shows every face as a flat rectangle. Add the areas of all six rectangles, which come in three matching pairs.

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix surface area and volume of cubes and prisms with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
